Hey people!

Today, we had a fun red cross training. It's because we had an orientation session with the new batch of Sec 1 red cross cadets! They were not shy at all and wasn't afraid to speak up. It reminds me of us when we were Sec 1s last year. However, they did not seem to have discipline within them and disrespected the seniors a little bit, but I'm sure they'll have plenty of discipline instilled in them once they start on their red cross trainings. *Smirks*

Anyways, we started the day off by explaining to the Sec 1s what Red Cross is all about and all the fun things we do every training. Then, we moved up to the Parade Square to start off our first activity which was Wacko! It's a pretty simple game. Here's the rules. We have to sit in a circle and one person steps up and becomes 'The Whacker'. The point of the game is to have someone sitting in the circle to call someone's name and 'The Whacker' has to identify that called person's name and 'whack' him. To avoid the 'whack', that person has to say someone's else name to redirect the 'whack'. So this goes on again and again until someone cannot call another person's name and gets 'whacked'. Then, that person becomes 'The Whacker'.

It's quite complicated, isn't it?

After that, we proceeded to Charades. In my opinion, it was rather draggy as many of us weren't enthusiastic about it. Thus, i won't elaborate further.

We then started on a new game. That game was invented by the seniors themselves so it didn't have a name yet. The rules are not to step your feet onto the ground, or else you're disqualified. We have to use sheets of newspaper to step on so that we don't touch the ground. We then have to collect as many colored papers (thrown by the seniors) as possible. After that rather messy game, we went block catching! If you don't know whats that, read my other post (about Red Cross). However, this time our floor limits were only floor 5 to 6. Rather dull, i might say, but the atmosphere heated up when we chased our seniors in an attempt to catch them.

After that, we went back to the Red Cross room and we had a brief debrief. Then, we were dismissed. Although, this orientation was short, we still have a couple more orientation sessions with the Sec 1s. I'm really looking forward to it!

-A problem you encountered and how you solved or manage it-

Hey peeps!

I'm going to talk about a problem that i encountered and solved it when making this precious blog. (Ahem! Ahem!). We all know that we have to have two types of media features in our blog, don't we? This is the part where I got totally stumped upon. I've seen many of my friends' blogs and they were awesome.
Most of them have music and pictures in their blogs. I do know how to add images to my blog entries. However, i have completely no idea how to install music in my blog. I decided to ask my friends for help!

This afternoon at exactly 1.40pm, we were dismissed from class and it was probably one of the best things in life.(No offence to teachers.) Having asked my good friend, Kelvin, yesterday to stay back in school to teach me, we went down to the canteen together, planning to grab a bite before heading to the library.

After a satisfying meal, we walked to the school library. There were computers there that we could use. However, when we entered the air-conditioned library, we saw all of the computers being taken up. Thus, we had to wait for some to finish and then we could use them. After around 10 minutes, one of the users finished using the computer and left. We then registered our names in the name list given by the librarians and we went to use the computer.

To be honest, I am not very tech savvy. Luckily, Kelvin taught me how to install music into blogs and i understood it with no difficulties at all. After he demonstrated to me, he told me to try it for myself.

Step 1. Go to Mixpod.com
Step 2. Search for the music you like and add it to your playlist
Step 3. Register an account with Mixpod
Step 4. Get the HTML code they give you and follow their instructions on where to paste it.

Kalamazoo(Random word)! Music is in your blog now. After all that, I decided to get home as my parents are waiting for me. I thanked Kelvin and left the library. Before i left, he said, 'No problem, buddy!'

And so, this concludes my post. Be sure to listen to the music I've installed in my blog!

-A special moment i enjoyed with my family-

Hi guys!

I just came back from my awesome outing with my family. We went to the East Coast Park to cycle! We set off at about 3pm in the afternoon when the sun wasn't that hot. As usual, we took our mum's car to our destination. Within minutes, we have already reached the car park. The moment i got off the car, a gentle cool breeze blew upon my face. After making sure that we have prepared everything, we proceeded to the bicycle rental shop. Seeing all the sleek bikes being displayed, i waited with anticipation as my parents rented the bikes for us. When we got on our bikes, we had some trouble stabilizing ourselves as we haven't gone cycling for quite a while. As we slowly regained our balance, we set off to the area nearer to the beach so that we can get a look of the wonderful scenery there. Ah, the shimmering blue sea under the bright golden rays of the sun..the sound of the navy blue waves crashing against the rocks was music to my ears. We enjoyed the glorious scenery as we cycled. When it reached 6pm, we returned our bikes and decided to grab a bite near East Coast Park. No, we didn't have Macdonalds. Instead, we went to a Hong Kong restaurant named 'C Nai Hong Kong Cafe'. We decided to patronize this restaurant as we have never tried it before. Upon entering the cafe, we were greeted by the waiters with warm smiles. The cosy atmosphere was also very comfortable. Soon, the waiter brought us to our seats and we looked through the menu. Wow, everything on the menu looked delicious. If only i could order everything.

However, I ordered the cheesy baked fish fillet & ham rice. I am a fan of baked rice as you can see. My sisters ordered a plate of authentic Hong Kong prawn noodles to share. My mum ordered a plate of fish and chips with mustard sauce while my dad ordered a Char grill fish fillet. Looks like we like fish fillets pretty much. For the sides, we ordered a plate of 'Sichuan deep fried spicy crispy chicken' and a plate of 'golden deep fried squid with crispy cereal'. We ordered a few ordinary drinks. My baked rice was just perfect. It was loaded with cheese, the ham was abundant, the fish fillet was fresh. We had a fantastic dinner there and would definitely go there again. After that we walked back to the car park and got on my mum's car. As we were on the way home, i though about the happy moments i had today with my family. Ah, how i hope we could have these kinds of outing more often!

-Something that took place in school-

Every Thursday and Friday, something happens. You know what's happening? It's my Red Cross CCA Training! I made it sound so important, never mind. Well today, I'm going to talk about my CCA that I attended a few hours ago.

RED CROSS
Being part of Red Cross means that we have to think and act fast(in an emergency), have discipline and are armed with first-aid skills that can be used anywhere. Not to forget, we are also good in Footdrill.

And so, i shall talk about my training today. Since i am part of a Footdrill Competition, our trainings now focus entirely on footdrills rather than First-Aid. This means intensive footdrill training for 4 hours each day on Thursday and Friday.

Okay, as per normal, we prepared for the training and stood in our squad position first. After the seniors (sirs) instructed us to go down to the red brick area(the school hostel), we acted with a sense of urgency in us. We reached there from the fourth floor in less than 2 minutes. As you can see, we act fast. Anyways, we stood in squad position again with our shoulders pulled back and our elbows locked. That made us look smart. Our squad comprises of both the Sec 2s and Sec 3s as both levels are in the competition together. Today, our sirs focused on our marching and wheeling (the movement of turning right or left during marching). Man, it was hard. We had problems synchronizing our wheeling steps, our marching was also slightly out occasionally. Our arm swings weren't coordinated as well. This obviously sparked the fury of our sirs and they 'knocked us down'(a slang in uniformed groups that means go into push-up position).
We got 70 push ups altogether from our mistakes. Well, i have to say, we deserved it. With that kind of standard, we wouldn't survive in the competition. We had minimal water breaks too. Imagine marching in the blistering hot weather with no water for roughly 2 hours. How torturous is that? Very.

After all that intensive footdrills, we proceeded on to RECREATION! That was a very rare occurrence as we don't have time to play usually. You know, footdrilling all day? After discussion, we decided to play 'Block Catching'. It's just like catching, just that we're hiding in the school and catching in the school. We can't hide in toilets, classrooms and the science labs. That would be plain cheating. Our floor limit was floor 4 to floor 7. That was a pretty big area to play with. We played three rounds of that and we proceeded back to the fourth floor. We went to the staircase landing for our debrief. We talked about our mistakes and the ways of improvement. After that, we were dismissed. Although it has been tiring, it has been an rewarding experience for all of us.

Tuesday 19 January 2010

It's Tuesday today! You know what's happening? Physical Education (A.k.a PE)! The second lesson of PE this year! Reason being our PE teacher was absent to handle some matters and no one could take over the past few weeks. Well, having said that, we went to the East Coast Park lagoon AGAIN. Last week, we went there for our 2.4km run. Going to the East Coast Park usually spells 'bad news' to me. I don't like running very much. Luckily, this time wasn't as intense as the 2.4km run. We had a 800m run. After hearing what the teacher said, we learned that this test is actually to help our respective sport houses. You know, Kapor, Kallang, Rochore, Whampoa, Glam. To get the maximum points for the house, we have to achieve a timing of 2:49 minutes or below if I'm not wrong. Everyone was aiming for that obviously. Okay, back to the running. We were to pair up with a partner and label ourselves '1' and '2' individually. 1 would run first and 2 would take his timing. After 1 had finished, 2 would run and 1 would take his timing. I was '2'. After we heard the teacher said, ''ready...GO!'', i saw every ONE ( the number 1 partners, get it? ...Nevermind.) sprinting for their lives. When my partner finished, the stopwatch read '4:10'. It's not too bad as i was sure I'll do worse. When it was my turn, my heart was racing fast as i was nervous. "GO!" and everyone sprinted. Reaching the finish line, i made a last sprint in an attempt to overtake my friend not far ahead. However when he saw me sprinting, he sprinted too! Obviously, i didn't manage to overtake him in the end. I got a timing of '4:19'. Everyone was feeling extremely exhausted after the 800m 'Sprint'. Then, we walked back to school after the monitors made a head count to check if anyone was missing.

Ah, what an exhausting day, but I'll be anticipating the next PE lesson, where we will be doing shot put!
